Positive Behaviour Management Training Courses

These training courses enable delegates to understand challenging behaviour and to learn solutions to deal with the problem effectively. Professionals working in care, education and other workplace settings will find them invaluable.

The term behaviour management can have different meanings depending on the environment. The training course shows how the carer can guide an individual in deciding to manage their own behaviour. Or, it can refer to the carer themselves, and how behaviour towards an individual can influence the person’s reaction to circumstances, or when certain triggers are present. The training benefits delegates in learning how to recognise signs and symptoms of challenging behaviour, identifying causes and providing simple interventions to resolve difficulties. The result guides the individual to a calmer place and avoids a crisis.

The training courses in this section will teach all employees and staff how to adopt a positive, planned approach when dealing with lone working, personal safety, challenging behaviour, and aggression.

Breakaway Skills

This course teaches a set of physical techniques to enable staff to defend themselves against a physical assault whilst undertaking their employment duties. Skills may be needed in some care environments to manage challenging behaviour safely. Depending on the risks faced in the role, our breakaway skills course will teach safe, legal and non violent disengagement skills through to rescue, escorting and holding skills, which may be particularly relevant in mental health, learning disability, dementia care, residential settings along with many other settings. The techniques taught involve the minimum possible use of force, and are designed to promote the safety of both the staff members and aggressor.

Personal Safety for Lone Workers

In line with The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), a Lone Worker is defined as, “Any person who works by themselves without close or direct supervision”. Also helpful may be the additional, “where you cannot assume that someone will give you assistance ‘quickly’”. In effect this describes a wide variety of staff who work, either regularly or only occasionally, on their own and without access to immediate support from managers or other colleagues.
